I was shocked to hear that some fans wore anti-Semitic flags during the NLCS and in the postseason as well. Were things allowed to get so out of hand with a professional sports franchise that fans were able to express their hatred and intolerance of a particular race of people with a symbol that symbolized their hatred?

This is not just an issue for the Dodgers, though. It’s about the whole country, as I’ve written before.

I never imagined there was anyone in Los Angeles who didn’t support the police, fire, paramedics, and other public servants who have worked so hard over the decades to keep us safe. But I’ve yet to meet one Los Angelino who didn’t believe what they’ve seen on television.

As my colleague Tom Mehan put it in his editorial last week, the Dodgers have been nothing more than a “welcome mat” to our bigotry these past few years. It’s as if the Dodgers can do no wrong. They have no more responsibility, no more accountability, no more integrity.

My problem with the team is not the general manager. It’s the owners. They are the ones who took the club in the wrong direction and should have been told and expected to change it, to bring it back to the team’s original values in the late ’90s and early ’00s, instead of coddling their white star and his hooligan gang.
